New material is introduced to children individually, and according to their interest. The knobbed cylinders are four blocks, consisting of cylinders which vary in dimension and height. The aim of this material is one of developing visual discrimination of height and dimension. It also develops problem solving skills, as well as coordination, fine motor skills and order. The teacher invites the child to join her, and demonstrates how we use the new material. Attention to the use of the material is very important, as the child learns to respect the material, including replacing the pieces in the correct place, and therefore reinforcing care for the environment and following instructions.
