This weeks practical life activity was ‘learning to set a table’. This was introduced using sequence cards during circle time, and each child then took turns to put the cards into the correct sequence, followed by setting a table. The table setting activity was then placed in a corner of the class, and the children then continued with this individually. Setting the table is a ‘ritual’ that has unfortunately become less and less important in our day to day living, but I know from my own personal experience that children receive great joy from this activity, it reaffirms the coming together as a family, and the care that is taken into preparing for this important time together. Get the children involved at home, let them take responsibility for this activity, and watch them grow in confidence.
